In case anyone is wondering how to get tarsnap to compile and the other posts here don't make it obvious (wasn't to me), I was able to successfully compile on Lion with the following commands: CC=/usr/bin/gcc-4.2 ./configure CC=/usr/bin/gcc-4.2 make all install clean
