I would never (as in NEVER) do a restore to a working directory,
anyway - unless the specification for the file pattern (omitted in my
example) was very specific. I create a restore directory, cd into it,
and traverse the tree to get whatever files I want, and copy them.
--As for the rest, it is mine.
I know of other backup products that can be configured to do so, and I've
seen it be useful on occasion. Sometimes precisely *to* remove the files
that didn't exist at the time of the backup.
