You won't be.  Your key file has all the credentials needed to create an
archive.  (Unless you make it passphrase-protected, in which case you
would need to enter the passphrase, of course.)

If you add the '-v' option you'll get a list of files as they are being
added to the archive.  The default behaviour is fairly quiet, since most
people use tarsnap from within scripts or cron jobs and don't want lots
of noise.

Cable modems typically upload at between 512 kbps and 2 Mbps; for 800 MB
of data, that works out to between 50 minutes and 4 hours.  Not surprising
that your archive hasn't completed in 12 minutes...
