Thanks for all the replies, both on-list and direct.  It sounds like such fees
are a common phenomenon with US credit cards... here in Canada I've never heard
of such a thing before.

Next question: Am I correct in thinking that people with US credit cards are
*not* seeing such fees when paying via Paypal?  If so, I'll add some text to
the payment page to warn about the possibility of card fees and recommend
Paypal as an option for avoiding them.
