FWIW this is because I provided the full path to the tarsnap binary, and
not the path to the dir where all tarsnap* binaries are located. Mea
Culpa.

Successfully backed up, restored, pruned archives, restored again
correctly, trashed the config, recovered it during install wizard, and
restored again. Really nice job Shinnok!

A+++++ will back up again
